How to use the backup PIN?

Unlocking your Bold Smart Cylinder without a smartphone is straightforward with the unique backup PIN feature. Simply walk through the process of enabling and using the backup PIN.

Enabling the backup PIN

  1. Open the Bold app on your smartphone and navigate to the settings screen of a specific Bold Smart Cylinder.
  2. Locate and select the option to enable the backup PIN feature.
  3. You have the flexibility to create up to three different PIN codes for added convenience. Click on one and you will be prompted to create a personal 5-digit PIN code.
  4. After creating a PIN, you can change it if needed or enable notifications to be alerted when the PIN is used.

Note that each PIN code is specific to the Bold Smart Cylinder it was created for and cannot be used with other Cylinders. It is your responsibility to decide whom you share your PIN with.

Using the backup PIN

  1. Approach your Bold Smart Cylinder. There is no need to have your smartphone nearby.
  2. To enter your PIN, begin by turning the outside knob. It doesn't matter whether you start on the right or left, as long as you alternate it after each digit.
  3. Enter the digits of your PIN code by turning the lock left and right accordingly. Ensure there are no long pauses between the entry of digits.
  4. Upon successfully entering the correct PIN, you will hear two short beeps, indicating that the Cylinder has been activated. If the PIN is incorrect, you will hear one beep, and the lock will not open.

Important tips

  • Ensure that you remember the PIN you set and share it only with people you trust.
  • Practice entering the PIN to become familiar with the process, especially the requirement to alternate directions between digits.

Troubleshooting

  • If you enter the wrong PIN and hear a single beep, double-check the PIN you have set and try again.
  • Should you encounter any difficulties or forget your PIN, refer to the Bold app for guidance on resetting your PIN.
