# How do you install the Bold Smart Lock?

#### Before you start
- The **inside knob must always be installed indoors**. It is not designed to withstand weather conditions.
- **Keep the door open** throughout the installation process. This makes setup safer, easier, and prevents accidental lock-ins.
- Make sure you have the **Bold app** downloaded from the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com) or [Google Play](https://play.google.com).
- Check that the **battery tab** is removed to power up the lock.
#### Step-by-step installation
1. **Activate the battery**
Pull out the battery tab to turn on the lock.
2. **Secure the Smart Engine**
Insert the small securing screw\* into the back of the inside knob. This locks the electronic engine inside the lock and ensures that the engine always remains in contact with the lock mechanism. The screw should always be placed.
3. **Start pairing**
Press and hold the inside knob for 5 seconds until the LED ring flashes red. Then, open the Bold app, tap the plus (+) sign, and follow the instructions to pair your lock.
4. **Remove the outside knob of the Bold**
Use the included hex key (allen wrench) to remove the small outside knob.
5. **Take out the old cylinder**
Unscrew the locking bolt on the side of the door. Insert the key into your old cylinder, twist, and pull it out.
6. **Insert the Bold Smart Lock**
Place the lock into the door with the large knob on the inside. Align the mechanism carefully so the lock functions correctly.
7. **Use adapters if needed**
If the lock does not sit flush with the doorframe, add the appropriate adapter from the provided set.
8. **Secure the lock**
Insert and tighten the locking bolt to fix the Bold Smart Lock in place.
9. **Attach the outside knob**
Place the small outside knob back onto the lock and tighten it using the hex key.
10. **Test the lock**
Open the Bold app, press the activation button, and immediately turn the outside knob to ensure everything works properly.
#### What does "device already installed" mean?
If you see the message **"Device already installed"**, this means the Bold Smart Lock is already connected to an existing Bold account.
Unfortunately, only someone with access to that account can reset or remove the lock. We recommend contacting the previous owner and asking them to remove the lock via the app. If that is not possible, return the lock to the seller.
#### \*Smart Engine Securing Screw
In the bag with the extension pieces, you will find a tiny securing screw. This screw is optional but highly recommended. Once inserted, the electronic engine cannot be removed without first taking the entire lock out of the door, so particularly important in more public spaces

In the small plastic bag with the extension pieces, you will find a tiny screw to secure the electronic smart engine in the inside knob. This screw is recommended for public places such as gyms, hotels, and office buildings, adding an extra layer of security. Insert the screw before placing the Bold Smart Lock in the door. Once inserted, it is impossible to remove the electronic smart engine without removing the entire lock from the door.
