What happens if the battery is low or empty?
We have several ways to make sure you won’t face any surprises.
Battery type and replacement
The Bold Smart Lock runs on a CR123A battery, which you can find at electronics stores, online, or in our webshop.
Note: We do not recommend using rechargeable batteries.
When it is time to replace the battery, you can do it yourself in just a few steps. Read how to replace the battery here.
Battery life expectancy
Under normal usage (up to 20,000 activations), the battery lasts up to 2 years. Keeping an eye on the battery level helps avoid interruptions.
How to check the battery status
Use the Bold App to monitor the battery. For the most accurate status, connect your phone directly to the lock via Bluetooth.
If you have a Bold Connect, the battery level in the app stays up-to-date automatically.
What happens when the battery is low?
When your battery reaches a 'critical' status:
-
You will receive notifications in the Bold App every first Monday of the month.
-
Once it drops to a critical level, we will also send email notifications—weekly at first, and daily if needed.
In this phase, the lock activates Stamina mode to conserve power and give you time to replace the battery.
What is Stamina mode?
Stamina mode is an energy-saving function that activates at a critically low battery level. In this mode:
-
Auto Entry is temporarily disabled.
-
The lock only responds when you manually turn the outside knob to 'wake it up'.
-
After that, you can use the lock as usual.
This mode ensures the lock stays functional until you install a fresh battery.
After replacing the battery
Once the battery is replaced:
-
Stamina mode deactivates automatically.
-
The lock returns to normal operation.
-
The new battery status updates in the app after a Bluetooth activation using the activation button.
Your Bold Smart Lock is designed to keep you in control, even when the battery runs low. With timely alerts and smart power-saving features, you stay one step ahead.
