What does the Dutch SKG*** certification of the Bold Smart Cylinder entail?

The Bold Smart Cylinder has been inspected by SKG and has achieved the maximum SKG*** classification.

The Bold Smart Cylinder has been inspected by SKG and has achieved the maximum SKG*** classification (only valid in the Netherlands). The SKG*** certification process consists of several components, such as drilling, pulling, magnetic manipulation, electromagnetic manipulation, vibrations, a sustainability test, a climate test, and a digital security test.

An SKG*** certification means the cylinder will resist mechanical manipulation for at least 5 minutes — unlike an SKG** certification, which represents 3 minutes of resistance. It might seem like a small difference, but to burglars, every second counts. They want to get inside as soon as possible — that’s how they minimize the risk of getting caught.

Furthermore, SKG*** locks have cylinder pulling protection. Cylinder pulling is the fastest, most common burglary technique. In the case of a conventional cylinder, burglars use the keyhole. That’s why the Bold Smart Cylinder doesn’t have a keyhole. Moreover, you can use the Bold Smart Cylinder in combination with SKG*** fittings with cylinder pulling protection, which means you’ll benefit from maximum security. This is unique for a smart cylinder.

With its SKG*** certification, the Bold Smart Cylinder has the highest degree of security. The certificate is only valid under certain conditions:

  • Is the lock visible because there’s a window in the door? Then pay attention to layers: it should at least be P4A glass.
  • Is the rotary door knob visible through a window? And is the door made of wood? Then SKG recommends a certified anti-drilling or manipulation facility.
  • SKG regulations prescribe that the maximum rating for any PIN code accessible device is SKG**. By enabling PIN, the physical and digital safety of your lock is not compromised and is still at the level of SKG***.
