What are the advantages of the Bold Elite?

The Bold Elite has the following features on top of the features already present in the normal Bold Smart Lock.

What is the locked status feature and how does it work?

Always know if your Bold Smart Lock is locked or unlocked

The Locked Status feature allows you to check the status of your Bold Smart Lock anytime, anywhere. Whether you are at home or away, you will always know if your door is securely locked.

How to set the unlock direction

To ensure that the Locked Status feature functions correctly, you must set the unlock direction in the app. This determines the direction in which the lock turns to unlock the door.

Steps to set the unlock direction:

  1. Stand inside the room, facing the Bold Smart Lock.
  2. Open the Bold app and go to Settings > Unlock Direction.
  3. The app will ask whether unlocking requires a clockwise or counterclockwise turn.
  4. Determine which direction you need to turn the knob to unlock.
    • Example: If turning the knob counterclockwise (left) unlocks the door, select “Unlocks Counter Clockwise” in the settings.
    • This feature requires the Bold Connect.

Setting the correct direction ensures that your lock functions properly when using Auto Entry and remote locking.

Follow-in Protection: Stop unwanted entry

Follow-in Protection prevents someone from quickly opening the door behind you after locking it.

  • In any Bold Smart Lock, you can set the duration for how long the lock remains activated after locking (between 10 seconds and 2 minutes).
  • With the Bold Elite, this feature is built-in. The lock immediately deactivates when the door is locked, without needing extra settings.

This ensures your door is secured as soon as you lock it.

Button Auto Disable: Extra security against letterbox fishing

Letterbox fishing is a common burglary method where intruders try to turn the inner knob through a letterbox or window. Button Auto Disable prevents this by deactivating the inside button as soon as the Bold Elite is locked.

  • This feature activates automatically when the Bold Elite locks.
  • If you unlock the Elite, the button reactivates for use.
  • The inner knob can always be turned manually, whether the button is activated or deactivated.

To check or enable this setting: Settings > Inside Button > Auto Deactivate.

Leave Alert: Never forget to lock your door

The Leave Alert feature reminds you when you have left your home or business while the lock is still open.

  • This feature requires the Bold Connect.
  • You will receive a notification once your phone moves beyond a 200-meter radius from your lock.
  • The notification only triggers when you are far enough away, avoiding unnecessary alerts.

To enable this feature: Settings > Notifications > Leave Alert.

Night Alert: Set a bedtime lock reminder

With Night Alert, you can receive a notification if your lock is still open before you go to bed.

  • This feature requires the Bold Connect.
  • The notification time is fully customisable, so you can set it to match your routine.

To set it up: Settings > Notifications > Night Alert > Choose preferred time.

Performance settings for better efficiency

Battery Save Mode: Extend battery life

If you do not use your lock frequently, Battery Save Mode can extend battery life up to 8 years by reducing energy consumption.

  • The lock enters Battery Save Mode 1 minute after locking.
  • When this is enabled, you must turn the outer knob to wake up the lock before using Auto Entry or unlocking.

To enable this: Settings > Performance > Battery Save Mode.

Signal Strength: Optimise Bluetooth connection

You can adjust the Bluetooth signal strength to balance between faster activation and battery life.

  • Higher signal strength: Faster Auto Entry and a more stable connection with the Bold Connect, especially useful for metal or glass doors.
  • Lower signal strength: Saves battery and reduces interference.

To adjust this setting: Settings > Performance > Signal Strength.

Turn to Boost: Faster auto activations

Turn to Boost temporarily increases Bluetooth signal strength for 10 seconds after turning the outer knob.

  • This ensures faster Auto Entry activations with minimal battery impact.
  • Ideal if Auto Entry sometimes takes longer to activate.

To enable this: Settings > Performance > Turn to Boost.

Auto Entry: More reliable unlocking

Some users noticed that Auto Entry (previously called Auto Activation) did not always work as expected.

  • Now, Auto Entry only activates when you physically turn the outer knob.
  • This ensures more reliable and intentional unlocking.

To enable this feature: Settings > Auto Entry (on) > Wait Until Turned.

Security alerts

Tamper Alert: Get notified of suspicious activity

The Tamper Alert sends a notification if your Bold Elite detects:

  • Shaking or strong vibrations (e.g., someone trying to force the lock).
  • Slamming of the door.

To enable this: Settings > Notifications > Tamper Alert.

Faulty PIN Alert: Detect multiple incorrect attempts

The Faulty PIN Alert notifies you if someone enters the wrong PIN three times in a row.

  • This alert works even if no backup PIN is set.
  • The PIN itself does not change after failed attempts.

To enable this: Settings > Notifications > Faulty PIN Alert.

New Bold Elite technology

The new Bold Elite features upgraded electronics, with more advanced and improved sensors—including better lock status detection.

Many users wonder whether these new features could be added to older Bold locks via a software update. This is a great question and worth further exploration.

Smart Home

Live Feed: Real-time lock status

  • A lock icon in the main screen of your Bold app now indicates whether your lock is open or closed.
  • Requires Bold Connect for real-time status updates.

Matter Connectivity: Integrate with your smart home network

With Matter connectivity, you can connect your Bold Elite to your smart home ecosystem.

  • Works with Google Home, Apple Home, Alexa, Home Assistant, and Homey (or any Matter-supported platform).
  • Activation: Settings > Matter > Enable.
  • Important: Matter certification is not yet finalized, but instructions will be available in the Settings section.
