# How to activate your Bold Smart Lock with the Bold app?
## Opening your Bold Smart Lock is quick and effortless with the Bold app. Whether you're nearby or using Bold Connect remotely, just follow these simple steps.
### Open your lock using the Bold app
Congratulations on installing your Bold Smart Lock! Here's how you can easily open your door:
1. **Open the Bold app** and navigate to the main screen.
The app will automatically show the lock that is closest to you.
2. **Activate the lock.**
Tap the black (or white in dark mode) activation button.
A green timer will circle around the button, confirming the lock is now activated.
You can now manually turn the **outer knob** to open your door.
### Opening your lock remotely with Bold Connect
Do you have a Bold Connect? Great—this allows you to activate your lock remotely:
- The activation button will always be available, even when you are outside Bluetooth range.
- A pop-up will appear asking you to confirm your remote activation.
### More activation control
By holding the activation button for a few seconds, a menu opens in which you can choose whether to activate it **“Direct”** or **“With Connect.”** Normally, the first available option will be selected automatically. This menu also shows the **“keep active”** function for Bold Pro users, which allows the lock to be set to active for a longer period of time.
