What is the expected battery life of the Bold Smart Lock?

The Bold Smart Lock offers up to 2 years (or 20,000 activations) of reliable battery life under normal use.

The Bold Smart Lock runs on a powerful Lithium CR123A battery. With typical use (about 25 activations per day), the battery will last up to 2 years or 20,000 activations. If you use the lock more frequently, you might need to replace the battery sooner.

You can easily check the battery status in the Bold App. For the app to show the most accurate status, your lock must connect to the Bold server regularly. This connection happens through the Bold Connect or your phone's mobile connection during activation. When the battery starts running low, the app will send you a timely notification. If the lock has been offline or its status remains unknown for an extended period, you will also receive an email alert.

Important note about the 'Calibrating (24h)' status

When your Bold Smart Lock has been offline for 2 weeks, or if the lock has rebooted (for example, after a battery replacement), the lock needs to recalibrate the battery status. During this process, the app will display 'Calibrating (24h)'. This simply means the lock is verifying the battery level. The correct status will appear after 24 hours.

Battery replacement tips

  • Always use a standard CR123A battery (available online or in well-known DIY stores).

  • We advise against using rechargeable CR123A batteries, as these are not suitable for the Bold Smart Lock.

  • After you install a new battery, the Bold App will update the battery status automatically (after the 24-hour calibration period).
