How do you make sure Auto Entry works best on iOS?
Auto Entry is controlled on your iPhone and each user must turn it on in the Bold app themselves. It is best to enable Auto Entry with your phone near the Bold Smart Lock.
How to enable Auto Entry
When standing near the Bold Smart Lock, open the Bold app, select your Bold Smart Lock, and head to the Settings screen. There you can enable Auto Entry. Follow the steps in the Bold app to set up Auto Entry for this particular Bold Smart Lock.
Troubleshooting
Want to ensure Auto Entry is as accurate and consistent as possible? Use our quick tips below.
Go to your iPhone Settings and scroll down to the Bold app. Configure your settings as follows ([click here for an example]):
-
Location: “Always” (and Precise Location where possible).
→ Note: Location Services need to be enabled on your iPhone for Auto Entry to work. This is usually already the case, but it is worth double-checking. -
Bluetooth: “On”
-
Background App Refresh: “On”
→ Please make sure background refresh activity is enabled for the Bold app and your phone. -
Mobile Data: “On”
→ Auto Entry works best if the Bold app is allowed to use mobile data. The amount of data used is very small, so you do not need to worry about usage.
Other settings that help:
-
Wi-Fi: Leave “Always on” — Wi-Fi helps determine the GPS location of the phone and is therefore important for improving Auto Entry performance.
-
Bold app: Do not completely terminate the app (by swiping it away from the active apps overview). Doing so might make Auto Entry less responsive.
-
Low Power Mode: Avoid enabling ‘Low Power Mode’ (which makes your battery icon yellow) — it can disable background activity features and reduce Auto Entry responsiveness.
Extra tips for Bold Elite users
If you are using a Bold Elite, you can improve the Auto Entry experience even more:
-
Range Boost: Enable the Range Boost setting in the Bold app to extend the Bluetooth range of the lock. This could help the lock respond more quickly when you approach.
-
Adjust activation timing: If Auto Entry feels too fast or you need a bit more time to get to the door, you can increase the activation time in the Bold app.
-
Turn to Activate: Enable the Turn to Activate feature — this ensures your Bold Elite lock waits to activate until you touch the outside knob, giving you full control over when the door unlocks.
